Architect
An established and design-led Architectural & Masterplanning practice is looking to appoint an experienced Architect to join its 16-strong studio in Leeds City Centre.
Established almost 20 years ago and led by hands-on Directors with backgrounds in some of the UK's larger commercial practices, the business has successfully created the best of both worlds – the expertise and project capability of a larger practice, combined with the autonomy, accessibility and collaborative culture of a smaller studio.
The practice has an excellent portfolio of work spanning Commercial, Retail, Offices, Education and Residential, alongside bespoke new-build developments, conversions, refurbishments and interior projects.
With a healthy workload and a number of projects progressing through design, technical and delivery stages, they are now looking for an experienced Architect who can hit the ground running, work independently and confidently take ownership of projects and packages.
The Role
This opportunity would suit an ARB-registered Architect with approximately 3–5+ years' post-qualification experience, although applications from experienced Architects outside of this range are equally welcomed.
You'll join a close-knit team where you'll be given genuine responsibility and autonomy, working across projects from design development through technical delivery and construction.
The practice needs someone capable of working at pace, making decisions and progressing projects without requiring constant supervision, while maintaining a high standard of design and technical output.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of projects and project packages through relevant RIBA stages.
- Producing and coordinating high-quality architectural and technical information.
- Developing projects from design intent through detailed design and construction.
- Coordinating multidisciplinary consultant teams and resolving design and technical issues.
- Managing your own workload and ensuring information is delivered accurately and to programme.
- Liaising directly with clients, consultants, contractors and other project stakeholders.
- Attending and contributing to design team, client and site meetings.
- Responding proactively to RFIs and technical queries during construction.
- Supporting and mentoring less experienced members of the studio where appropriate.
What We're Looking For
The successful Architect will ideally have:
- ARB registration with approximately 3–5+ years' post-qualification experience.
- Strong and demonstrable Autodesk Revit capability, with the confidence to use Revit independently on live projects.
- Previous experience successfully delivering projects within a UK architectural practice.
- Good design ability combined with a strong understanding of technical delivery and construction.
- Experience producing and coordinating comprehensive drawing and information packages.
- The ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and deliver at pace.
- Confidence coordinating consultants and communicating directly with clients and contractors.
- A sound understanding of UK Building Regulations and current industry standards.
- Previous job-running and site delivery experience would be highly advantageous.
The studio is predominantly Revit-based, although there may initially be a requirement to work in AutoCAD for several months, so previous AutoCAD experience would be beneficial.
The Practice
This is an excellent opportunity for an Architect who wants greater autonomy, responsibility and project ownership within an established independent Leeds practice.
Rather than becoming another number within a large team, you'll work closely with the Directors and senior members of the studio, with the opportunity to have a genuine influence over projects and their delivery.
The practice offers a modern and collaborative working environment, alongside flexibility around working hours to accommodate childcare and individual circumstances. Collaboration remains central to the business, so this opportunity will particularly suit somebody who enjoys being part of a studio-based team.
Salary: £38,000 – £48,000 per annum, dependent upon experience, plus benefits.
