Applications Engineer - CNC Grinding
Up to £42,000
Warwickshire
Hybrid Company Car, Bonus Scheme, 25 Days Holiday, Private Medical, Enhanced Pension, 1-2-1 Training

Are you an experienced CNC Machinist with a background in grinding looking to step away from a purely factory-based role?

Do you have experience with CNC grinding machinery, cutting tools or 5-axis machining and want to move into a customer-facing Applications Engineer position?

If yes, read on...

My client is a leading supplier of advanced CNC machine tools and manufacturing solutions, working with customers across the UK, Ireland and internationally. Due to a vacancy within their Advanced Grinding and Milling Applications Team, they are looking for an Applications Engineer with a bias towards CNC grinding.

They are happy to consider an experienced Applications Engineer, but are equally interested in speaking with CNC machinists with grinding experience who are ready to take the next step in their career. Full training and support will be provided.

The Role
Working within the Advanced Grinding and Milling Applications Team, you will provide technical support throughout the customer journey, from reviewing initial applications and supporting the sales team through to programming, demonstrations, training and production support.

You will:

  • Review customer engineering drawings and 3D CAD data, assessing how components can be manufactured and recommending suitable machining solutions.
  • Prepare time studies and recommend appropriate workholding, tooling and machining strategies.
  • Work alongside the sales team on customer visits, providing the technical expertise to support customer applications and business cases.
  • Support the development of turnkey machining solutions, working with internal engineering teams and machine tool manufacturers.
  • Programme machinery and provide operator training at customer sites.
  • Support customers with production applications, technical queries and process improvements.
  • Attend trade shows, open houses and machine demonstrations.
  • Travel to manufacturers'' facilities in Europe with customers for demonstrations and project support.
  • Travel throughout the UK and Ireland, with occasional opportunities to support international projects.
The role is varied, combining home-based technical work, customer visits, machine programming, applications support and international travel.

Minimum Skills / Experience Required
  • Hands-on experience with CNC grinding or a strong understanding of grinding processes.
  • Experience within the cutting tool industry, particularly the manufacture of carbide drills, end mills or inserts, would also be highly relevant.
  • Experience with grinding/machining equipment such as ANCA, Walter, Rollomatic, Vollmer or Makino G5 would be of particular interest.
  • Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
  • CAD/CAM experience; Siemens NX would be particularly beneficial, although experience with packages such as HyperMill, iCAM or SolidWorks will also be considered.
  • Knowledge or a strong interest in 5-axis machining.
  • A relevant apprenticeship, HND, degree or equivalent industry experience is desirable rather than essential for the right experienced candidate.
You don''t necessarily need previous Applications Engineer experience. If you''re currently working on CNC machinery within a manufacturing environment and have good grinding knowledge, this could be an opportunity to take your technical experience into a field-based, customer-facing career.

The Package
  • £38,000 - £42,000 basic salary, depending on experience.
  • Hybrid company car via Benefit in Kind - servicing, repairs and insurance covered by the company.
  • Fuel can either be included as a Benefit in Kind or separated between business and personal mileage.
  • Company bonus scheme after 12 months'' employment - historically around 8-12% of salary, based on company profits.
  • 25 days'' holiday.
  • Enhanced stakeholder pension - company contribution of 1.5 times the employee contribution, up to a maximum employer contribution of 7.5%.
  • Private medical insurance available.
  • 4x salary Death in Service.
  • Company sick pay scheme.
  • Laptop and mobile phone.
  • Full product and applications training provided.
  • Genuine opportunity to develop within a specialist CNC machine tool environment.
