Alecto Recruitment is looking to recruit for an Anaerobic Digestion Site Manager based in Bishops Cleeve, Gloucestershire.

We are recruiting for an experienced Site Manager to take responsibility for the safe, compliant and efficient operation of a major Anaerobic Digestion site.

The Role

As Site Manager, you''ll have overall responsibility for the day-to-day running of the site.

This is a hands-on operational leadership role where you''ll be managing people, plant performance, maintenance activities, compliance, budgets and key site projects.

You''ll ensure the site operates safely and efficiently while achieving production, financial and operational targets.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking full responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the Anaerobic Digestion plant.
  • Planning and managing the processing of incoming feedstocks.
  • Leading and developing the site team to achieve operational targets.
  • Maximising plant efficiency, productivity and profitability.
  • Managing site performance against operational and financial KPIs.
  • Monitoring and reporting on the site''s P&L and identifying any discrepancies or areas for improvement.
  • Planning maintenance activities alongside internal maintenance teams and external contractors.
  • Ensuring critical plant assets are maintained and kept in safe working order.
  • Managing maintenance expenditure and capital investment requirements.
  • Supporting and delivering site improvement and operational projects from conception through to completion.
  • Managing plant capacity and communicating requirements with internal stakeholders.
  • Supporting the efficient planning of spreading operations, transport and product movements.
  • Building strong working relationships with farmers, contractors and customers.
  • Identifying opportunities to maximise revenue from site products and outlets.
  • Resolving operational issues quickly, including weighbridge issues, vehicle diversions and invoice discrepancies.
  • Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the site''s Gas to Grid equipment.
  • Supporting operational activities across the site, including reception and responding to breakdowns when required.

Health, Safety & Compliance

Safety and compliance will be at the heart of everything you do.

You''ll be responsible for creating and maintaining a strong Health & Safety culture across the site and ensuring all employees understand their responsibilities.

You will:

  • Drive and enforce a positive Health & Safety culture.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures.
  • Encourage the reporting of near misses and incidents.
  • Support investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Implement corrective actions and provide additional training where required.
  • Ensure the site and workshop remain secure and safe at all times.
  • Maintain accurate operational records, samples and laboratory testing regimes.
  • Manage complaints and ensure issues are communicated and resolved effectively.
  • Ensure the site remains audit-ready at all times.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies including the Environment Agency, HSE, Environmental Health and Animal Health.
  • Maintain compliance with PAS110 and ABPR requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to relevant planning conditions, permits, licences and exemptions.
  • Maintain mandatory training and competency standards across the site.

Lead, Develop & Motivate Your Team

This isn''t simply about managing a plant - it''s about leading people.

You''ll provide clear direction, coaching and support to your team while creating a motivated, skilled and high-performing workforce.

You''ll be responsible for:

  • Coaching, mentoring and developing direct reports.
  • Providing practical, hands-on training and knowledge sharing.
  • Managing employees throughout the full employee lifecycle.
  • Conducting inductions, probation reviews, 1-to-1 meetings and performance reviews.
  • Addressing performance issues when expectations aren''t being met.
  • Supporting succession planning and identifying future talent.
  • Working closely with senior operational management on employee engagement and action planning.
  • Supporting recruitment and resourcing requirements across the team.

What We''re Looking For

We''re looking for an experienced operational manager who understands the demands of running a technically complex, highly regulated site.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and technical understanding of process plant.
  • WAMITAB AD Level 4 qualification.
  • NEBOSH or an equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • A strong working knowledge of SCADA systems and plant control systems.
  • Experience carrying out or supporting incident investigations.
  • A thorough understanding of PAS110 requirements.
  • Experience working directly with regulators including the Environment Agency and HSE.
  • Proven people management experience across the full employee lifecycle.
  • Experience operating and managing heavy plant and processing equipment.
  • A strong understanding of HACCP.
  • Knowledge of DSEAR regulations.
  • Confined space certification, including experience using Breathing Apparatus (BA).
  • Strong management and leadership skills.
