Allocations and Lettings Officer
We are currently seeking an experienced Allocations and Lettings Officer to join a busy Local Authority housing team in East London. The successful candidate will be responsible for allocating permanent and temporary accommodation in line with Part VI of the Housing Act 1996, the Council''s Housing Allocations Scheme and relevant temporary accommodation policies. Key duties will include managing allocations through the choice-based lettings system, carrying out direct matching for applicants with specific needs, including medical cases, management transfers, under-occupiers and sheltered housing applicants. You will also verify shortlisted applications, complete affordability and suitability assessments, and provide clear housing advice to applicants awaiting rehousing or receiving an offer of accommodation. You will support the letting of temporary accommodation, prevention and private rented sector properties, including completing sign-ups and providing appropriate tenancy advice. The role will also involve making decisions regarding refusals of suitable interim accommodation under Section 188 of the Housing Act, issuing formal decision letters and discharging homelessness duties where appropriate. The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of housing allocations, homelessness legislation and lettings within a local authority or social housing environment.
