Job Title: Air Systems Engineering Lead - Training & Simulation
Location: Bristol/Abbey Wood - with travel to multiple sites; occasional overseas travel may be required
Rate: Up to -600pd inside IR35



Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Air Systems Engineering Lead to oversee all engineering activities for a fleet of airborne pods used in advanced training and simulation. These systems deliver radar, communications jamming, radar signal simulation, and anti-ship missile simulation capabilities, ensuring forces can train effectively in a realistic operational environment.

You will act as the technical authority for the airborne systems, ensuring they are safe, compliant, and fully integrated with wider land and maritime training systems.



Key Responsibilities

  • Act as engineering lead for airborne training and simulation systems, ensuring safety, compliance, and capability delivery

  • Review technical documentation, participate in design reviews, and support test and evaluation activities

  • Serve as a safety panel member, with a focus on air safety, airworthiness, and system safety

  • Support Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) activities, ensuring all lifecycle support requirements are met

  • Ensure compatibility between air systems and mission planning systems, working closely with other technical specialists

  • Collaborate with land and maritime engineering teams to maintain system interoperability

  • Contribute to security reviews and compliance activities in coordination with security specialists

  • Maintain engineering documentation and manage milestone review processes

  • Represent the project in technical working groups and committees as required

  • Take ownership of broader technical tasks when needed, such as document reviews, formal correspondence, and stakeholder management

  • Prepare weekly activity updates and participate in regular team meetings



Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • HND/Degree in a relevant engineering discipline

  • Proven experience in a military or civilian engineering role



Desirable Skills & Knowledge

  • Experience with electronic warfare or advanced simulation systems

  • Knowledge of air safety and airworthiness principles

  • Understanding of system safety processes



Additional Information

  • This role involves travel to various UK sites and occasional overseas visits

  • There is no line management responsibility

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills are essential
