The role:
A qualified and experienced Adult Social Care Lawyer required to provide expert legal advice and assistance on all aspects of Community Care law, including Ordinary Residence, Mental Health, Human Rights, Mental Capacity, Deprivation of Liberty, Sections 17/20 Children Act and Judicial Review.
You will deliver clear, proactive legal support to clients, supervise Senior Legal Assistants, Legal Assistants and trainees as required and deputise for the Principal Lawyer when necessary.
You will have experience of handling a caseload of general Adult Social Care matters, Court of Protection work and Judicial Review challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide specialist advice on Adult Social Care lawConduct advocacy and instruct counsel as appropriateSupport elected members and officers with tailored legal guidanceAssist in team and service developmentPromote good practice across the legal teamProvide cover across Legal Services and deputise for Senior Lawyers as neededManage individual caseloads, including complex litigation and judicial reviewsPrepare legal documentation and advise on disputes, Council powers and decision-making legalityRespond to corporate complaints, Members’ enquiries, and handle data protection and FOI requestsKeep abreast of legal developments and advise on implicationsDeliver legal training to colleagues, clients and membersEnsure all duties are carried out with a focus on safeguarding, equality, data protection, health and safety, and customer care
What the client is looking for:
Admitted solicitor/ Qualified barrister or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX)Thorough knowledge of one or more of the following areas: Ordinary Residence, Mental Health, Human Rights, Mental Capacity, Deprivation of Liberty, S17/20 Children ActSignificant and relevant experience in the legal profession (preferably within the last 2 years) handling Community/Adult Social CareExperience of contributing to corporate decision making and development of corporate policy and strategyAbility to carry a heavy caseload of adult social care workGood presentation skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and orallyAbility to give clear and proactive legal advice in a manner which supports clients in achieving their organisational objectivesAbility to prepare cases for hearingsAbility to appear as an advocateAbility to analyse information, evaluate evidence, solve problems and present solutions at an appropriate levelAbility to provide advice and present arguments in a confident, articulate and persuasive mannerAbility to develop and maintain good working relations with clientsAbility to instruct Counsel, attend conference with Counsel and attend in courts, tribunals and inquiriesAbility to deputise for the Principal Lawyer in the team
