Hirexo are working with a thriving and modern accountancy practice in Nottingham that is continuing to grow through a strong reputation and a loyal client base. We are looking to appoint a confident and ambitious Accounts Senior who can review and finalise client accounts, oversee tax and VAT compliance, and support the development of junior team members. This role is based in Nottingham and is commutable from Sheffield, Gainsborough, Scunthorpe, Derby, Mansfield, Loughborough, Newark, Doncaster and Lincoln.

The Opportunity

The Accounts Senior will play a central role in reviewing accounts and tax work, managing client relationships, and supporting the Managing Director with practice improvements. You''ll also mentor junior colleagues, helping to build a culture of shared knowledge and development.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviewing and finalising accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and small limited companies
- Preparing and reviewing tax returns (company and personal)
- Reviewing VAT returns and ensuring compliance across reporting periods
- Acting as a first point of contact for client queries, providing clear and professional advice
- Coaching and supporting junior colleagues, including input into appraisals and workload reviews
- Managing workload allocation through the practice management system, ensuring deadlines are met
- Supporting the Managing Director with systems development and helping the practice move fully paperless
- Reviewing and improving internal processes to enhance efficiency and client service
- Assisting with internal audits for a small number of clients
What You''ll Need to Succeed
- AAT qualified (or equivalent) with solid experience in an accountancy practice
- Strong technical knowledge across accounts, tax, and VAT
- Experience reviewing the work of others and supporting junior staff development
- Detail-focused, organised, and confident managing multiple deadlines
- Strong communication skills and client-facing experience
- IT literate with knowledge of Xero, Dext, and Excel
- Positive, approachable, and proactive with a genuine interest in helping the practice grow

- £28,000 - £32,000 depending on experience
