Accounts Assistant

Anderson Knight Recruitment is working with a well-established accountancy practice based in Motherwell to recruit an Accounts Assistant to join their growing team.

Working alongside an experienced team, you will gain exposure to a varied portfolio of clients and develop your technical accounting knowledge across a range of day-to-day finance duties.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of financial records for a portfolio of clients

• Processing purchase and sales invoices, bank transactions and journals

• Completing bank reconciliations and assisting with balance sheet reconciliations

• Supporting the preparation and submission of VAT returns in line with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements

• Assisting with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities

• Supporting the preparation of management accounts and year-end financial information

• Liaising with clients to obtain relevant financial information and resolve queries

• Using accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or similar systems

• Assisting senior members of the team with bookkeeping and general accounting duties

• Developing an understanding of accounting principles, tax and compliance requirements

• Working towards taking on additional responsibilities as your knowledge and experience grow

Requirements:

• Previous experience in an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant or similar role would be advantageous

• An interest in pursuing a long-term career within accountancy

• Basic understanding of bookkeeping, reconciliations and general accounting principles

• Good IT skills, with experience using Excel and accounting software beneficial

• Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work

• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities

• Confident communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues

• A proactive attitude, willingness to learn and enthusiasm for professional development

• A genuine interest in studying towards a professional accountancy qualification, such as AAT, ACCA or ICAS
