OverviewJOB PURPOSE: As a web content editor, you will play an integral role within Web Services. Working with teams across the Council, you’ll be responsible for editing web content, helping to set content standards and helping to ensure content is up to date, consistent and meets the current version of the Website Content Accessibility Guidelines to Level AA. Your role will include proofreading articles before publication and ensuring content is shown to the user in the right place, at the right time and easily understood. Reporting to the Digital Production Manager, you will:

Work closely with stakeholders and team members to ensure our content is evidence based, user centred and continually optimised.

Be responsible for editing and curating content on the Council’s website.

Support the wider communications team with content for the Council’s intranet and social media presence.

Support and provide guidance to web page content owners, ensuring content is relevant, up to date, accessible, easy to understand and consistent.

Identify and refer technical issues to the relevant teams within the Council.

Ensure content standards are maintained with particular emphasis on accessibility, security, risk and exposure.

Ensure content standards, guidance, style and banding guidelines for the Council are met.

Articulate the value of content design, supporting and coaching content owners across the Council to understand the connection between excellent content and excellent service/experience.

Have a detailed, up to date understanding and practical knowledge of the digital communications landscape and identify the best ways to reach different audiences.

Ensure all digital communications activities comply with GDPR, the Code of recommended practices on Local Authority Publications and any other relevant legislation or guidance.

Description of Duties

Working alongside the Digital Production Manager, plan and update content work and support content owners with guidance.

Monitor the performance of the website against targets and take proactive corrective actions to ensure standards are met.

Actively review our weekly/monthly website analytic reports and fix broken links, typographical errors and proofread and edit spelling, grammar and syntax.

Raise and report on any bugs in a timely manner ensuring minimal impact to the online customer experience.

Act as a knowledge base for website applications such as the Drupal Content Management System (CMS) and any other channel maintenance and reporting tools in use.

Work with third party suppliers to ensure a smooth running of the website.

Be responsible for assisting, supporting content owners on web related subjects and systems.

Maintain the look and feel of the website in accordance with corporate style guidelines and best practice.

Respond to web content enquires and complaints in SLA and support content owners and other teams deal with feedback on website and online transactions.

Contribute to digital projects as directed by the Digital Production Manager.

Provide input into business cases, reporting documents, project planning and risks and issues log as required.

Ensure issues regarding the delivery and quality of online channels and their content are addressed in a timely manner.

Ensure the Council digital communications are delivered with a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Support the set up of new website/microsites.

Take responsibility for own personal and professional development ensuring that technical knowledge and skills are current and meet the needs of the role.

Comply with the Council’s legal requirements under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Freedom of Information Act, the Privacy and Electronics Regulations and Information Security Standards.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Essential – Minimum 5 GCSEs, Grade A-C in Maths and English.

Demonstrable knowledge of website management (site structures, mapping, etc.)

Excellent understanding of good web writing practice. Basic HTML knowledge

Strong knowledge of the technological platforms necessary to support the Council''s website.

Strong knowledge of web analytics concepts and software usage.

Extensive knowledge of best practice in online communications including usability and accessibility.

Working knowledge of web languages and technology such as HTML, CSS, XML, CMS and web development tools.

Excellent understanding and experience of the configuration and management of websites to agreed service requirements and technical specifications.

Experience of submitting support tickets for website bugs and issues.

Excellent experience of stakeholder management

Ability to interpret web data

Ability to prioritise work in line with delivery and business priorities

Experience of forming and sustaining relationships across the Council and with external partners

Strong understanding of technology requirements and awareness of key trends in the internet industry and implications

Ability to define strategies and policies, providing guidance to others on working in the strategic context

Able to work autonomously

Ability to communicate and explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders

Ability to translate non-technical requirements into online solutions

Able to think, plan and develop creative online content for complex issues

Able to establish positive relationships with Council colleagues and external partners

Ability to assess and evaluate risk and manage work schedules accordingly

Able to plan and schedule work to support wider project plans.
