1:1 EHCP/IEP Teaching Assistant - Preston, Lancashire (October Start)

About the Role:

We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide personalised support to a student with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or Individualised Education Program (IEP) at our secondary school in Preston. This is a highly rewarding position where you will play a vital role in ensuring a student can access the curriculum, build confidence, and achieve their full potential.

This role requires a patient and empathetic individual with a solid understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to implement the student''s specific support strategies and foster a positive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support to a student, helping them to stay on-task and understand lesson content.

  • Implement the strategies outlined in the student''s EHCP or IEP.

  • Adapt learning materials and activities to meet the student''s individual needs.

  • Encourage the student''s independence and social inclusion within the school community.

  • Monitor and record the student''s progress and report back to the class teacher and SENCO.

  • Assist with communication and liaison between the student, teachers, and parents.

  • Support the student during exams, breaks, and extra-curricular activities as required.

What We''re Looking For:

  • Essential Experience: Proven experience as a teaching assistant, specifically with students who have an EHCP or IEP.

  • A strong understanding of a range of special educational needs.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, resilience, and a compassionate nature.

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider team.

Start Date: October 2026 or sooner.
