Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant, academic tutor, or graduate passionate about closing attainment gaps and raising student confidence?

A high-performing secondary school in Preston, Lancashire is looking for a proactive 1:1 Mentoring & Intervention Teaching Assistant to support Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (GCSE) students starting this September 2026.

In this targeted role, you will work closely with subject teachers and pastoral leads to deliver structured small-group booster sessions and individualized 1:1 interventions across core subjects and study skills.

Position Details:

  • Job Title: Academic Intervention Assistant / 1:1 Student Mentor

  • Location: Preston, Lancashire (Easily commutable via M6, M55, and Preston Central Rail Station)

  • Start Date: September 2026

  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (Term-time only - 30 to 32.5 hours per week)

  • Pay Rate: -85.00 - -105.00+ per day (PAYE, based on qualification and experience)

  • Contract: Full-time, long-term for the 2026/27 academic year (Permanent contract pathways available)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Targeted 1:1 Mentoring: Deliver structured one-to-one academic support and pastoral mentoring to secondary students needing extra guidance to reach their potential.

  • Small Group Interventions: Lead small focus groups (3-6 pupils) in core academic areas (English, Maths, and Science) to accelerate learning and consolidate lesson material.

  • GCSE Preparation: Assist Year 10 and Year 11 pupils with revision strategies, exam practice, time management, and study resilience.

  • SEND & SEMH Adaptation: Differentiate learning resources for pupils with additional needs, including ADHD, dyslexia, ASC, or anxiety-related learning barriers.

  • Progress Tracking: Monitor pupil progress, track attainment data, and provide feedback to class teachers, SENCOs, and heads of department.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Prior experience delivering academic interventions, tutoring, or 1:1 mentoring to secondary-aged youth (11-16).

  • High level of literacy and numeracy confidence to support GCSE-level curriculum content.

  • University degree (Psychology, English, Maths, Science, or Education-related) or Level 3 TA qualification is highly desirable.

  • Strong communication, active listening, and rapport-building skills.

  • Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service (or willingness to process one before September).
