Underwriting Assistant

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Underwriting Assistant to support our underwriting team during a 4-month contract with a possible extension and permanency.
This role involves assisting underwriters in processing insurance applications, performing data entry, and analyzing risk factors to determine the cost and benefit of insuring prospective clients. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to gain more insurance industry experience and grow within the company.
This position is Hybrid (1,2 day in office ) and starts immediatly.

Responsibilities
-Provide administrative support to underwriters across TMCan’s underwriting units.
-Maintain records of broker correspondence and set up client files.
- Triage new business submission and prepare submissions for underwriting reviews
-Data entry into policy administration system.
-Prepare insurance policies for issuance.
-Process simple policy transactions and issue insurance certificates under the supervision of an underwriter.
-Assist underwriters populate various underwriting tools and perform risk analysis utilizing established automated or manual resources for the purpose of quoting, negotiating and obtain the requisite authority necessary for renewal or new business policies.
-Provide input on necessary improvements required on the various underwriting tools to ensure efficient handling of the business. This includes suggesting modifications regarding the submission ingestion, appetite review, price, capacity review, quote, bind, issue, service, and renewal processes.
-Document assigned files ensuring completeness, compliance, and quality to meet the documented electronic file standards.
-Perform other general clerical duties such as handling phone calls, handling payments/invoices, setting up files, copying, filing, faxing, and scanning.
Qualifications
-The ideal combination of education and experience - a university degree or college diploma and
-Previous experience in the insurance industry.
-2+ years of relevant experience.
-Proven analytical and problem-solving skills to collate and accurately summarize appropriate and timely data sets through Excel.
-Keen interest in numbers and a numerical background preferred.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS 360, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook) with a particular focus on Excel skills.
-Strong attention to detail and effective organizational skills.
-Takes initiative, is self-motivated with a can-do attitude.
-A proven ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines and driving for results.
-Experience working closely with others and enjoy an atmosphere of cross-collaboration.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-The ability to thrive in a changing environment and be comfortable with ambiguity.
