Accountant - Local Government

Belmont Recruitment are currently looking for an experienced Local Government Accountant to join Cheshire East Council on an initial 3-6 month temporary contract. This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The Role: Additional senior capacity in the Council''s Strategic Finance and Accounting Team. The team looks after the budget setting process, in-year reporting, capital programme co-ordination, closure of accounts and treasury management. The candidate could be involved in a range of those areas. Key Duties: Prepare and manage budgets, financial statements, and year-end accounts. Monitor and control public sector spending, ensuring value for money. Provide financial analysis and reports to senior management and stakeholders. Ensure compliance with local government financial regulations and accounting standards. Support the development of financial policies and procedures. Assist with external and internal audits. Provide guidance on financial planning, forecasting, and cost-saving strategies. Requirements: Qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA, ACA) Experience in public sector finance or local government accounting. Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and audit processes. Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel. Location - Crewe/Hybrid working.
